How Can Chronic Pain Be Treated With Pain Management Treatments

Generally it is the old aged adults who are the victims of chronic pain. Chronic pain means the persistent pain in the muscles and joints or any other pain. Unlike acute pain which is short lived, chronic pain lingers and is incessant. The resultant distress is quite high to the chronic pain victims. Quite usually, the actual underlying cause for the chronic pain is unidentified in many of the cases, it might be as a result of an accident that had occurred long ago, owing to the posture of a person or any other cause and the physicians choose to connecting these never-ending pain complaints of the patients with depression or stress. Actually, quite a lot of chronic pain patients suffer the pains in silence until the condition changes into something more serious and unbearable.

A person can have one or two co-existing chronic pains. The general observation that has been made in the chronic pain sufferers is that they have lesser than expected levels of endorphin in their spinal fluid. There are quite a lot of treatment possibilities that are available for chronic pain sufferers like acupuncture, medications, surgeries etc. However, the credibility and the effectiveness of these treatments are not well established.

Pain management treatments like physiotherapy, relaxation, psychotherapy and behavior modification are used for chronic pain help. However an exclusive pain management treatment that has come as a boon for chronic pain patients is electrical stimulations that can ease the swelling and irritation and pain in a simple and easy way. This electrical stimulation technology brings about a bio feedback mechanism and enables the body to mend itself. It is proved to present pain relief results and it is a great chronic pain help. With this electrical stimulation technology you can aim at pain areas and benefit from pain relief with the help of the stimulations.

The electrical stimulation devices are hand held resources that may be used by people to transmit the electrical stimulations around the regions of their body where they are suffering from the chronic pain and avail immediate relief from it. Unlike the other chronic pain management treatments, electrical stimulation assists in providing a long lasting chronic help to the sufferers and also begins the healing process in the body.

This chronic pain management device has been specially designed and developed to help the people who are subjected to the traumatic chronic pains and present them with a solution to assist them in non pharmaceutical way.

Time for You to Get Serious About Your Chronic Pain Treatment

Do you suffer from chronic pain?

If you answered yes, you will appreciate knowing that there are many different types of chronic pain treatments for your neck, back and sciatica pain and many of these chronic pain treatments are non-invasive. Understanding the cause of your chronic neck pain, chronic back pain and sciatic pain, will also help you find the right chronic pain treatment for you.

There is an amazing non-invasive system called Lose the Back Pain, which I have tried and used for years, and it has not only decreased my sciatica pain, but this sciatica pain treatment has also decreased the recurrence of my pain. The Lose the Back Pain system explains that most back and sciatica pain are caused by muscle imbalances. The system shows you how to check yourself for muscle imbalances, provides exercises to alleviate these muscle imbalances and the company also provides online support.

Try not to let anyone discourage you from trying different treatments, as different things work for different people. However, you may want to discuss any new treatments, you want to try with your healthcare provider prior to trying them. Many people may need to combine more than one treatment for their chronic pain treatment or their sciatica pain treatment.

It’s important for you to get chronic pain treatment and sciatica pain treatment as chronic pain can harm your brain’s wiring as shown in a study done by researchers at Northwestern University’s Feinberg School of Medicine in Chicago, called Chronic Pain Can Harm Your Brain’s Wiring
This study was published in the Feb. 6, 2008 issue of The Journal of Neuroscience.

Did you know that if you decide not to get chronic pain treatment, left untreated, you can be looking at additional problems including?

  • Loss of sleep
  • Irritability, sadness, mood swings
  • Depression, discouragement or fear
  • Decreased activity which can lead to blood clot formation in the legs & to general weakness
  • Impairment of the body’s immune system, which helps fight infection
  • Inability to participate in daily family life
  • Inability to work or work full time
  • Slowed recovery from surgery, injury or illness

Chronic pain treatment, besides reducing your pain, has additional benefits as well, including :

  • Decreased irritability, sadness and mood swings
  • Ability to exercise which leads to better physical and mental health
  • Laughing & having fun
  • Having personal relationships
  • Ability to work part time or full time and provide for your family
  • Participating in activities and playing with your kids
  • Traveling
  • And more….

A doctor should manage your chronic pain treatment and I recommend one that specializes in pain management. As most doctors specializing in chronic pain treatment truly understand their patients needs and are able to empathize with their patients as well, including the need for pain medications.

In the world of chronic pain treatment and sciatic pain treatment, I get the most calls and emails about the fact that someone’s doctor does NOT understand their need for medication, which is of great concern to so many chronic pain patients. This is one reason why I do NOT recommend having your family doctor manage your chronic pain treatment. Using pain medications, for most, is simply a tool to participate in activities of daily living. And although some people are mentally addicted to these medications it is definitely a very small percentage.

Are you tired of hurting? Are you tired of not being able to participate in activities with your children or your family? Well then, let me share with you one of the most amazing, non-invasive systems for chronic pain treatment and sciatica pain treatment.

An Urgent Need For An Integrated Approach To Chronic Pain Management

The last two decades have seen extensive research in the field of chronic pain management. This is a welcome development because today we have a greater understanding of the pathophysiology of pain resulting in better approaches to pain assessment, and advanced interventional strategies for managing patients suffering from chronic pain. Help with chronic pain needs a multidisciplinary approach because pain is a complex phenomenon involving a blend of both the psychological and physiological aspects of a person. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy Extensive research has shown that physical changes in the muscles, joints and nerves generate nociceptive inputs to the brain that decode the type of pain a person experiences. For example, a sharp stabbing pain or burning pain is an interpretation by the brain that in the end influences a person’s behavior. Based on the interpretation, the person will choose to either lead a normal active life or live a life of disability. It is common for us to note how differently each person responds to chronic pain. We have seen people who continue to work, walk, socialize and engage in all forms of normal activity without apparently paying heed to pain; and in contrast, we have noticed people who refrain from all activity and live the life of an invalid. This fact clearly points to the necessity that chronic pain management must focus on cognitive behavioral therapy. Doctors have now realized that Pain treatment options must not narrow down to just chronic pain medications but must also include counseling as part of an overall therapy plan. Whichever way we look at it, chronic pain is a serious problem in modern medicine. Millions suffer from chronic pain and unfortunately, a good percentage of them choose opioids for relief. To add to the woes of sufferers there is massive denial of medication due to the regulatory laws. It is not uncommon to hear of chronic pain sufferers driven to depression and even suicide. All such issues have made Chronic pain management an unenviable challenge to doctors and health care providers. Headaches and lower back pain may be common treatable disorders as long they are minor in nature, but when chronic pain sets in, long term relief will require Chronic pain management strategies. The Role Of Drug Therapy A stage comes in the life of a pain sufferer when common over the counter drugs like Tylenol, ibuprofen and aspirin do not seem to work. The sufferer then looks for a stronger painkiller. Fioricet and Tramadol are two such revolutionary drugs that have proved effective for chronic pain. Fioricet is a combination of barbiturate, acetaminophen and caffeine. This drug works mainly on the central nervous system and is used to treat migraines and muscle contraction headaches. The other drug Tradamol is a centrally acting opioid, which treats moderate to severe pain, besides relieving depression and anxiety. Both the above drugs may offer relief but are not without their tradeoffs. These drugs are habit forming, addictive and might be potentially harmful. Doctors should prescribe these with care and patients on their part should limit consumption only to that much which is prescribed. Drug therapy in a controlled manner may have its merits but in the long haul chronic pain management will have to focus on integrated cognitive behavioral treatment.

Preventing Chronic Pain after a Car Crash

As pain management doctors, we spent our lives treating patients who live courageously with chronic pain, many times the result of injury, illness, or pure genetics. A recent study out of the University of Aberdeen School of Medicine and Dentistry in Scotland is generating quite a bit of buzz due to its remarkable results on just this issue; causes for chronic pain.

According to HelathDay News, people appear to be more likely to develop chronic pain after suffering injuries in a traffic crash than after other physically traumatic events. Last week, we spent much of our time discussing how to prevent injuries, a key cause of many chronic pain conditions later in life. This study has seemingly proved that there is another auspicious culprit in the case for chronic pain causes; traffic accidents.

“We believe there are persons — defined by prior physical and psychological health — who in the event of a traumatic trigger are vulnerable to developing chronic widespread pain,” Jones explained in a journal news release.

Chronic widespread pain is defined as the presence of pain above and below the waist or on both the left and right sides of the body that lasts for more than 3 months. Participants in the study who had experienced a traumatic traffic accident in their lifetime had an 84% increase likelihood of acquiring chronic widespread pain.

If you follow chronic pain news, you no doubt have heard about this study. But what does it mean? Well, the study goes on to say that among those who reported new, widespread pain, 75% said they had experienced a traffic accident, surgery, or broken bones over the same period. While traffic accidents on their own have proven to be a great predictor of chronic pain later in life, broken bones are also cause for concern.

Preventing Chronic Pain After A Car Accident

Many times, car accidents cannot be predicted or avoided, and the risk of chronic pain becomes a true reality for numerous individuals. The key is to know the signs and the recovery procedures after you’ve been in a traumatic accident.

• Take some time out to assess the situation. After an accident, take a deep breath and try to relax your muscles. Tension, stress, and a heightened blood pressure can wreak havoc on your body, so take a moment to realize what just happened and understand what you’re body is telling you. Where do you hurt? What does it feel like? These are aspects that you’ll need to tell the emergency personnel that arrive on scene.

• Be mindful of your actions after the car accident. Often, signs of injury will not appear immediately, so it’s in your best interest to be aware of what your body is telling your for the next few days after the incident. Neck and back pain are the most common symptoms after a car accident, but these symptoms can lead to many other chronic conditions that are a direct result of the crash.

• See your family physician after any car accident, just to make sure that everything is aligned properly, muscles, tendons and tissues aren’t damaged, and there are no fractures. Avoiding and ignoring any sign of injury or pain might be “tough” in the moment, but when you’re living with chronic pain later in life the fact that you didn’t speak to a physician at the time of your car accident will haunt you.
